Simone Philippou
Simone Philippou is an Artist and Printmaker based in Nicosia, Cyprus.
She received a university education in London, where she graduated from Kingston University with a BA (Hons) in Illustration and Animation (2008) and a high distinction from the University of the Arts at the Camberwell College of Arts with an MA in Visual Arts (2011).
Early on in her art education, Simone chose to pursue her interests in printmaking processes, exploring techniques of woodblock printing, screen printing, and lithography.
After several years in London, having exhibited her works on a number of occasions, she returned to Cyprus to set up her printmaking studio in Nicosia.
A desire to further her understanding of traditional techniques, resulted in an additional Master's degree from the Tokyo University of the Arts (2018), with a three-year research scholarship from the Japanese Government to study Japanese Woodblock printing at the Printmaking Laboratory of the Tokyo University of the Arts.
As an active member of the contemporary printmaking community, Simone takes part in international exhibitions, conferences, and symposiums under various roles - often as a presenter, moderator, exhibitor, panel speaker, or delegate.
Since returning to Cyprus, after her stay in Japan, she has continued her art practice as a studio-based Printmaker. Since 2020, she has also been teaching Printmaking at the Fine Art Department of the Technological University of Cyprus.
